about

Hi, I’m the songwriter in the Ramona St. George Project. Here’s a little background about this album:

A friend was in my studio one day and advised me that of the four clocks on my wall, three had stopped. I explained that I had put them there after I’d moved cross country so I could keep track of clients and contacts in the four continental US time zones. But mind changes and life changes soon ensued and I lost contact with many of those interests. Since the clock with the local time was in a different location, the batteries in the other three clocks had slowly drained away, unnoticed.

It occurred to me that TIME zones may also refer to MIND zones, the world views one has at different times in life. And though many of those views, because of life experiences, change - and even contradict one another, in my case at least they each have been instrumental in shaping me as I am now.

Since songwriting is a natural form of expression for me, the songs in this collection emanate from the past and the present. I hope you will find them first of all entertaining, but also, that they will do what art is supposed to do: strike a responsive chord on some aspects of what it means to be a human being.

About The Ramona St. George Project

I first met Rick Martinez at Red House studios in Walnut Creek, CA, a kind of club for musicians. There I joined a band with Rick and played with them for over two years. During that time Rick got the band to play a couple of my songs, but they preferred to do covers. Rick was eager to produce originals, so a year ago we agreed to collaborate on recording my songs.

That “project” resulted in the twelve songs that became this collection. We’ve had extraordinary luck in achieving this. Rick’s extensive experience in the music scene provided contacts for a wonderful group of musicians who play and sing on this album:

Guitars: Bob Lewis, John Cunningham, Bruce Langstrom, Brian Fagerstrom, Rob Scott; Bass: Mike Husser, Jim Mergens; Organ: Reed Overshiner; Drums & Percussion: Rick Martinez.

I never get tired of hearing their work - and I’ve listened to them hundreds of times in preparing this album! I think you’ll like hearing them over and over, too.

We also found a valuable resource in the Ex’pression College for Digital Arts in Emeryville, CA. In four 8-hour sessions, we recorded the basic tracks for ten of these songs. In a throwback to the days when some of these songs were written, we recorded on 2-inch magnetic tape!

The rest of the work was done at our Ramona and St. George home digital studios, where we added elements like percussion, additional vocals and instrumentals plus audio adjustments, effects and mixing.
